Meet Olivia and Sophia!

I've had numerous requests for darker skinned dolls, so here they are...meet Olivia and Sophia! Both dolls are made from 100% cotton fabric, just like my Annie, Gracie and Emily dolls. I love these two girls, and I hope you do too. I think they make a great new addition to the Sugar & Spice family! I have several of each available in my etsy shop.

Cookies for breakfast!

I love the idea of breakfast cookies, but despite my major sweet tooth, the ones on the market are a bit TOO sweet for me. This recipe for breakfast cookies is terrific! I've made it many times, and it's easy to modify with different mix-ins. Today I made them with raisins and chocolate chips. I've made them in the past with dried cranberries, walnuts, and a bit of orange extract. Next I might try dried blueberries or apples....they're very versatile! They freeze really well, and they make a great after school snack!
Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies

2 cups brown sugar
2 1/2 cups rolled oats
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 T baking soda
1 t baking powder
1 t salt
2 t cinnamon
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 cup prune puree or prune baby food
2 T water
3 eggs
2 t vanilla extract
2 cups mix-ins (raisins, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate chips, etc)

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, oats, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Make a well in the center and pour in the oil, prune puree, water, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until well blended. Stir in the mix-ins. Scoop dough onto the cookie sheets, flattening slightly. Bake for 8-10 minutes, remove from the cookie sheet and cool on a wire rack. Makes about 3 dozen. These cookies don't get crisp...they stay soft.

Have you heard about LolliShops?

I'm so excited to let you know that I'll be selling on LolliShops when it opens later this year! If you haven't heard about it yet, it's being touted as "the frou frou friendly marketplace"...it will be THE place for all things girly and sweet! I've been getting to know some of the artists involved, and they're an amazingly talented group! You can check out the LolliShops blog for more information and updates...and lots of pictures of goodies that will be available for sale! The upcoming opening of this website has given me a renewed excitement and enthusiasm for my work! I'm looking forward to doing some even more "girly" things...as if dolls aren't girly enough, right? :) One thing I've been making, that I currently have available in my etsy shop are fairies. I've been having so much fun with them! Take a peek.....

mmmmm......Muffins!

I really enjoy baking, and muffins are one of my favorite things to make. I'll often make a double batch and freeze them for breakfasts and snacks. A muffin, orange juice and coffee is my favorite breakfast....because it's yummy and fast. I find I don't have much time for a nice leisurely, sit down meal in the morning...or any time actually! :) I made a batch of Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins this morning. I love these...they taste like a cookie. I get 12 muffins out of this recipe, but I fill the cups full. And yes, it's perfectly fine to eat chocolate for breakfast if it's in a muffin. :)

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins

1 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups rolled oats

4 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt

2/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup peanut butter

2 T. vegetable oil

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 12-cup muffin pan. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Stir in chocolate chips. In another bowl, beat together yogurt, brown sugar, peanut butter, oil, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined...don't overmix. Spoon batter into muffin cups. Bake for about 20-25 minutes.

I hope you love these!

Samantha Rose

It's been a couple weeks since I've written anything, because I was getting really crabby from being overdue. But little Samantha Rose finally arrived on Saturday, April 5th! She took her own sweet time coming, but she was so worth waiting for! She weighed 8 lb. 1 oz and measured 21" long. I know her daddy and I are biased, but we think she's perfect! :) Her brother and sister are in love with her too. So far, she has a really sweet disposition (I hope it stays that way!).
